Each yogurt base contains:
-
4 capsules of Lactobacillus reuteri (5 billion CFU each)
-
2 capsules of Lactobacillus rhamnosus (10 billion CFU each)
-
2 capsules of Bifidobacterium infantis (1 billion CFU each)
A total of 8 capsules per batch.
B. infantis is particularly sensitive and more difficult to maintain in fermented foods than traditional lactic acid bacteria. It grows slowly, produces hardly any lactic acid, and requires special substrates. In 3-strain yogurt, it therefore works primarily in conjunction with the other species—as part of a synergistic blend that specifically strengthens your microbiome.
Three key strains, two lost species – one strong microbiome
With L. reuteri and B. infantis, the set contains two clearly identified lost species—microbes that have largely disappeared from modern intestinal ecosystems. Although L. rhamnosus is not a classic lost species, it exhibits similar health-promoting properties and is increasingly rare in Western microbiomes without external supplementation.
3-strain yogurt: L. reuteri, L. rhamnosus & B. infantis
This special combination combines two of the most important “lost species”, Limosilactobacillus reuteri and Bifidobacterium infantis, with the most researched all-rounder Lactobacillus rhamnosus to create a powerful yogurt that goes far beyond classic probiotics.
All three strains support the microbiome in different ways and act via the gut-brain axis throughout the body, including by demonstrably sending chemical messengers from the gut to the brain. L. reuteri, for example, stimulates the release of oxytocin , the "bonding and healing hormone," which has far-reaching effects on mood, sleep, muscle development, and immune regulation.
Their targeted use can trigger processes that many users describe as life-changing.
With the starter set you can prepare your own 3-strain yogurt – fresh, high-dose and without additives.
For a yogurt starter, the following cultures are used in this combination:
-
L. reuteri
At least 5 to 20 billion CFU are required.
→ 4 capsules of 5 billion CFU = 20 billion CFU -
L. rhamnosus
Also high dosage and easily fermentable.
→ 2 capsules of 10 billion CFU = 20 billion CFU -
B. infantis
Very sensitive
→ 2 capsules of 1 billion CFU = 2 billion CFU
What happens when you reattach?
Ready-made yogurt can be used as a starter multiple times. However, the culture can change over several generations. Spontaneous mutations, contamination, or the selection of faster-growing subspecies can lead to a decline in effectiveness. Dr. William Davis, who developed the method, recommends starting fresh with new capsules after at least 20 batches. This preserves the physiological activity of the bacteria.
Why 20 generations?
Food microbiological studies show that lactic acid bacteria can undergo genetic changes after about 10 to 30 passages.
These changes arise through spontaneous mutations, natural selection, or contamination. They can lead to a decline in certain health-promoting properties.
The following applies to our 3-strain yogurt:
-
L. reuteri is particularly sensitive to genetic changes and, over time, loses its ability to stimulate central neurotransmitters such as oxytocin. Regular rebooting is crucial to maintaining its physiological activity.
-
Although L. rhamnosus is robust, it can also lose diversity through repeated fermentation and develop dominant substrains that no longer produce all the desired effects.
-
B. infantis is difficult to cultivate anyway. With repeated reuse, its numbers decline rapidly because it requires very specific nutrients and conditions.
We therefore recommend a fresh start with new capsules after 20 attempts at the latest to ensure that the bacteria can develop their full effect – as originally intended.
